Mandy Moore's Got Nothing But Nets

After visiting Sudan to deliver nets as a Public Services International ambassador last year, Mandy Moore witnessed the reality of malaria's unnecessary, but certain devastation. She was also struck by the simple solution that could put an end to the near one million deaths it causes each year and decided it was time to take more serious action. Moore joined the UN Foundation Nothing But Nets campaign, and is appealing to her fans to help provide funds for anti-malaria bed nets to be distributed among the Central African Republic, where a child dies from malaria at the astonishing rate of every 30 seconds.

Nothing But Nets global initiative, supported by PSI efforts, aims to distribute three million insecticide-treated bed nets among 15 African nations. If all goes as planned, the grassroots effort will eradicate malaria fatalities by 2015.

"People need to know that malaria, a disease that has existed for centuries and killed millions, can be stopped within the next five years,” said Director of Nothing But Nets, Adrianna Logalbo, in a news release. “Mandy Moore’s voice, and the global reach of social media, is helping spread the buzz about the urgency of stopping this preventable disease."
