Massive Attack to Drop Atomic Bomb
Three years have passed since the last Massive Attack album, so the trip-hop duo is coming back strong with the "Splitting the Atom" EP next month. While most EPs are stacked with filler, "Atom" explodes out the gate with "Pray for Rain," a 7-minute collaboration with TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe. Check out the new track below, and the album artwork at right.
Other guest vocalists include Elbow singer Guy Garvey, roots reggae singer Horace Andy and Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird. The EP -- rounded out by the title track and remix recreations of "Bulletproof Love" and "Psyche" -- will debut in British stores Oct. 5 and in the U.S. a day later.
"Splitting the Atom" is ultimately a teaser for the group's fifth studio album, which is set for release in February. Adebimple will also appear on that album as will Blur-Gorillaz vocalist Damon Albarn. The group -- featuring 3D Roberto Del Naja and Daddy G Grant Marshall -- will headline the Bestival music event this Friday on the Isle of Wight and kick off a U.K. tour the following Thursday in London.
