Miracle Mom Cuddles Premature Son Back to Life
After giving birth to premature twins, Australian mom Kate Ogg was told the devastating news that one of them wasn't breathing. The doctors declared her newborn son dead. Unable to accept the traumatizing news, she cradled him close to her chest. After two hours of cuddles, something extraordinary happened — little Jamie started to breathe.
With her mother and husband by her side at the hospital in Sydney, Ogg couldn't believe it when her lifeless son suddenly moved, reports Britain's Daily Mail. At first the gasp of air was dismissed by doctors as a reflex action but then the 2-pound infant, born at just 27 weeks, began to splutter back to life and held out his hand, to reach for his mom.
Talking on Australian television show Today Tonight, Ogg said: "I thought, 'Oh my God, what's going on?'" After feeding him a little breast milk on her finger, the newborn started to breathe normally. "He opened his eyes and moved his head from side to side. The doctor kept shaking his head saying, 'I don't believe it, I don't believe it."
Jamie's parents decided to share their amazing story, to highlight the importance of skin-on-skin contact with poorly babies, a method known as Kangaroo Care, which by holding a baby close to their chest, the mother acts as a human incubator to keep her baby warm and stimulated.
Feeling like "the luckiest people ever," 5-month-old Jamie is now at home, healthy and happy with his twin sister Emily by his side, no doubt completely unaware of his remarkable journey into the world.
It's a heartwarming story indeed.
