Music Legends Produce for Charity
This week's Tonic iPod auctions are epic.
If you love music, if you love yourself, if you refuse to pass up once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, then waste no time on snagging these tokens of memorabilia from some of music's modern legends. Yes, I said legends, and their signed iPods are up for auction now.
Sure, we've featured pop stars and DJs, musicians and performers with impressive songlists. This new batch of iPods, however, takes us to a whole new level. So who do we have?
Bob Ezrin. Not only is he a devoted Tonic fan, he's one of the biggest big-shots the biz has to offer, a music producer who has worked with the biggest and best for decades. We're talking the whole damn spectrum — from Jay-Z to Jane's Addiction to Nine Inch Nails, Green Day to KISS to Lou Reed. His playlist is an amalgam of genres and styles, every one a masterpiece. At 25 songs long, the list fills his end of the bargain and makes sure your summer soundtrack is fully stocked.
Did I mention he produced Pink Floyd's The Wall? Oh yeah, that too.
Steve Lillywhite. He's got the golden touch, polishing the hell out of everyone from U2 to MGMT, Phish to Morrissey. Even his unfortunate departure from a Dave Matthews Band recording immortalized him in the famous leaked recordings now dubbed The Lillywhite Sessions. But surely he's heard enough of those days gone by — the ever-savy uber-producer is constantly moving onward. Right now, he's coming full circle and revisiting a couple of his most influential acts, working on new albums with just-reunited Phish and epic megastars U2.
Last but surely not least, I present the one and only Buddy Guy. Seen as a forefather of modern American music, he's shaped the way that blues and rock took form. Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones — all of these rock legends have covered Guy's hits. He's not just a Hall of Famer, he's a recipient of the National Medal of Arts. His playlist is yet to be disclosed, but I am burning to know which tracks he thinks we shouldn't go without. I'm gonna fight you guys for this one. Let the bidding wars begin ...
And you thought I was being dramatic with "legends" ...
