Neil Young Wins First Grammy, Named MusiCares 2010 Person of the Year

Neil YoungMusiCares, an organization that offers critical assistance to musicians in need, has named Neil Young as their 2010 Person of the Year.

A host of stars including Ben Harper, Lucinda Williams, Jack Black, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Sheryl Crow performed at the tribute to the honoree on January 29 in Los Angeles.

The honor is a cherry on the sundae for the veteran musician, who won the first Grammy Award in his storied career at Sunday's Grammys.

Young's Grammy is shared with his co-art directors Gary Burden and Jenice Heo for the boxed set "Neil Young Archives Vol. 1 (1963-1972)." His acceptance speech for the award was notably short: "Thanks a lot, everybody."

Speaking of Grammys, the musical director for the MusiCares tribute to Young was two-time Grammy-winning producer Don Was. The tribute, among the most prestigious events to occur during Grammy Week, reportedly raised $4 million to provide vital funding for MusiCares — an organization that offers help to musicians in financial, medical and personal emergencies and focuses its resources on issues that impact the music community.
