NYC Laugh Fest

It can take a lot to make New Yorkers smile, but the participants in the Sixth Annual Comedy Festival are up for the challenge.

In a recent Comedy Central announcement, the network revealed that HBO political jokester Bill Maher, 30 Rock actor Tracy Morgan and film star Ricky Gervais (Ghost Town) will headline this year's event. All in all, over 150 comedians will perform Nov. 4–8 in more than 10 venues, and Comedy Central will film the acts for a season of half-hour specials to air next year.

"Headlining one of the most prestigious comedy festivals in the world is an amazing honor for me," said Gervais in a statement. "The fact that it's at the beautiful and historic Carnegie Hall makes it all the more wonderful. It's just down the road from my apartment. I can walk to work."

Correcting himself, the British comedian adds, "I won't walk obviously. I'll take a limo. But I could walk if I had to."

For the third year, NYCF will also host a "Stand Up For Heroes" benefit to raise money and awareness for American troops injured overseas and help them integrate back into their communities. The benefit, co-presented by the Bob Woodruff Foundation, has previously featured performances by Robin Williams, Conan O'Brien, Regis Philbin and Bruce Springsteen.

Tickets for the festival went on sale on its website Aug. 5. Additional performing talent will be announced shortly.
