One Step to Reduce Air Pollution
Maybe not all of the United States is quite ready to jump on the “go green” bandwagon when it comes to cars, but there is a very simple, yet effective, solution to cutting down on the exhaust fumes from car emissions. Simply walk or ride a bike more when traveling locally.
If you opt to walk or bike to places that are located close to you instead of driving the short distance, you will be decreasing the amount of exhaust fumes released into the air and consequently lowering air pollution.
Choosing to walk and/or ride a bike instead of driving has many positive benefits as well. For example, you will not only help the environment but you will also save money on gas. Additionally, walking and bike riding are great forms of exercise and will help you stay healthy and in shape.
Walking is one of the simplest and easiest forms of exercise, but it provides so many healthy rewards. Benefits include keeping your immune system strong to prevent catching colds and disease, keeping your heart healthy and losing weight.
Since the center of the town I live in is only about a 15-minute walk from my house, I try to walk to meet friends when we decide to gather for meals, shopping, or just to take a stroll around our quaint little town.
I am so proud of my dad because he walks to work every day when it is decent enough to permit safe travels. It takes him about 15 minutes to walk to work from our house so it really makes a lot more sense for him to walk instead of drive. My father even walks in the cold winter months with little complaint. He just dons his winter boots, gloves, hat, scarf and winter coat, and then trudges several blocks to work.
I highly recommend walking or riding a bike instead of driving whenever you can because the numerous advantages outweigh the harmful costs that driving has on our well being, health and environment.
