Online Pic Contest Wants Your Awkward Couple Moments
Everyone's got them. I'm talking about those "awkward" family photos where little Timmy was picking his nose without anyone noticing when the family photo was taken, or Grandma's half empty bottle of Schnapps is clearly visible on a picture time stamped 9 am.
So what to do except make sure they don't land on Facebook or get inadvertently sent out in an e-mail, as you haven't gotten around to properly labeling your hundreds of online images?
Well if you've got an exceptionally awkward photo of you and your spouse or significant other that you would never put in an album and definitely not on the wall, take a minute today and submit it to a unique online photo contest sponsored by the powers-to-be marketing the new movie "Couples Retreat."
They're accepting photo submissions (rated TV-14 or gentler) through tomorrow, October 3. Online voting to determine a winner from five finalists begins October 4 through October 8.
It's not clear if there's any sort of prize, but heck, what else are you going to do with that picture of your best friend and lover wearing a pair of too-big boxers and a T-shirt you're still trying to figure out how to destroy without leaving evidence.
The winning picture will rule the movie's main homepage on October 9 "and show the world just how uncomfortable it can be with the person you’re most comfortable with," according to the site's contest information.
The movie tie-in effort is the first marketing brand effort for Awkward Family Photos, which was launched by two childhood friends this past May. The first month drew 4.2 million visitors and 40 million page views.
“There is something universal about the awkwardness of family, and what better way to show that than through the family photo,” said Mike Bender, co-founder and editor-in-chief, in a release provided to Tonic.
And if you decide not to put your photo in the ring or post it anywhere on Awkward Family Photos' site, take a few minutes to browse what's been submitted as it's hopefully as entertaining as the movie, which debuts in theaters on October 9.
