Organic Flowers Pass the Eco-Friendly Sniff Test

flowers.jpgIf having your beloved breathe in a bouquet of pesticide-infused  flowers doesn't exactly sound romantic, then keep reading.

Organic flowers are growing in popularity, and buying them is easier — and cheaper — than you think.

According to the Long Island Press, Organic Bouquet, an online retailer, carries VeriFlora-certified arrangements. Not sure what that means? In short, it's a label applied to flowers that meet national standards for sustainability, while ensuring a safe workplace for the farmers who grow them.

Valentine's Day may be over now, but Organic Bouquet has tons of flowers to choose from and can accommodate last-minute orders. There are a bunch of arrangements under $50. Plus, if flowers aren't really your thing you can choose organic chocolates or Earth-friendly bath products.

Need an extra incentive to visit Organic Bouquet online? Check out the Flowers for Good section of the site. Each bouquet listed corresponds with a specific charity — like Amnesty International, The Nature Conservancy or the American Lung Association — and if you buy the bouquet here, 5 percent of your purchase aids one of these worthy organizations.

Organic Bouquet isn't the only place to buy organic flowers for your sweetie. California Organic Flowers sold out for Valentine's Day, but generally ships priority overnight to anywhere in the continental US. Diamond Organics also boasts tons of flowers grown exclusively in California and Hawaii, as well as other eco-friendly goodies like organic beer and wine.

So now that Valentine's Day has passed, when you get the urge to send your loved ones some flowers, consider going organic. The earth — and your sweetie's nose — will thank you.
