Pampering Springs Eternal

If you live the typical life of a city dweller, your daily minerals come from a multi-vitamin, a bowl of breakfast cereal and a maybe a glass or two of San Pellegrino. For at least one weekend this summer, why not enjoy your minerals the old fashioned way: with a long, relaxing soak in the Glen Ivy Hot Springs.

The Glen Ivy Springs — which are about an hour's drive from Los Angeles in Corona, Calif. — have been attracting visitors since the 1800s thanks to their naturally mineral-rich hot waters, which are full of sodium carbonate, calcium and other natural healers. The area's earth is also chock-full of components you usually find crammed into a pill, like iron and magnesium, which are ideal for an old-school mud bath.

Where's the best place to experience these age-old chemical-free soothers? The Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa, which is in its 150th year. This day resort stretches over 11 acres and offers access to both the hot springs and California red clay mud — as well as pools, massages, and a healthy cafe, too. It's a perfect place to spend the weekend, recharging and getting yourself ready to tackle the week ahead.

In other words, to give yourself a mineral foundation ...
