So the findings of new study that show "a relationship between political beliefs of corporate stakeholders and the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of their firms" may not raise eyebrows. But the fact that, according to that same study, "companies with a high CSR rating tend to be located in Democratic states, while companies with a low CSR rating tend to be located in Republican states" may raise a few.
Using data from the 2004 US presidential race, professor Amir Rubin of Simon Fraser University looked at voting results in communities that are home to corporate headquarters and compared them to the CSR ratings of those corporations. The study appears in the latest issue of The Financial Review. You can download Rubin's working paper at his website.
