The Immaculate Collection
Record labels usually see a bump in sales during the holiday season so it's easy to see why so many capitalize on the holiday rush with Christmas albums. But now Geffen/Universal Records is doing one better than the competition by bringing in an artist with a lock on the religious audience: the Pope.
The Associated Press reports that on the album, to be released November 30, Pope Benedict XVI will sing and recite prayers. The album will also include eight new classical music pieces. Proceeds from the CD will help fund music education for underprivileged kids around the world.
The U.K.'s Times adds that with over 1 billion Catholics in the world, the album should be a hands-down chart topper — even if just a fraction actually buy the record. If all goes well, perhaps a follow-up is in order. Maybe a collaboration with the Dalai Lama? Samples of the Benedictine Monks' Gregorian chants with rapping courtesy of his Holiness?
Release the white smoke. I think we have a best-seller on our hands.
