What Do Porsches Have to Do With Cancer?
The Porsche family wants to support cancer research. And who better to raise money for such a cause than a family that made its name on selling luxury goods. Surely they must have some extra luxury good lying around that could bring in a pretty penny.
Philanthropy UK reports that they will be auctioning off around 50 luxury watches from the private collection of Prof. F. A. Porsche and his sons. The watches, from makers like Eterna, Porsche Design, Rolex, Panerai, Eberhard, Jaeger LeCoultre, Breitling, Chronoswiss and Omega, are estimated in value at around £100,000 ($166,940).
Of special value are the specimens from Eterna and Porsche Design, which were made especially for the family. The family has owned Eterna, one of the last existing independent watch companies, since 1996. According to Wealth Bulletin, the auction will also include a rare Rolex Explorer with Ivory Dial and an original 1960 Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris.
All the proceeds from the auction, to take place on December 2, will go to the Oncology Research Department of the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany.
