Psychics To Resurrect Michael Jackson On TV and Via Twitter
Touring the great city of London for the past couple days, I've learned a lot about British culture. I have slowly come to learn, for example, that the British love extraordinary characters and unlikely heroes. This is the city that's considering stripperesque pin-up girl Katie Price for "Mother Of The Year."
While Michael Jackson fatigue has probably set in for many stateside, it's a raw feeling in the UK that won't go away very soon. MJ was huge in London and they've got the concert revues and fan paraphernalia to show for it. He is everywhere like he never left. It's no secret that his untimely death is big business. Millions have been made since the icon died tragically earlier this summer. What followed was a media saturation uncovering lawsuits, unsavory bedside manner, the contesting of both his will and paternity of his three children -- not to mention the album reissues, renewed interest in MJ-inspired fashion and finally the documentary “This Is It” set to premiere this week in theaters.
Its a fact, there was and will continue to be money made from the otherwise tragic circumstances but overseas, specifically right here in my temporary home away from home they are prepared to ask one question: Where are you Michael? And they'd like to ask him directly.
It was announced this week that Britain's Sky One is set to air not one, but two live seances to contact MJ. The series, "Michael Jackson: The Live Séance" and "Michael Jackson: The Search For His Spirit" will be hosted by acclaimed (and maligned) UK medium Derek Acorah.
If he's successful, it may help to boost the not so awesome reputation of Acorah, who also appears on UK's "Most Haunted." He's been accused of faking some of his televised "possessions" by the spirits he's trying to contact, some accusations even coming from the “Most Haunted” producers. Or it could go horribly wrong. Either way it will prove to be quite entertaining.
Not to be outdone, Twitter is also involved in this of course. According to Flavorwire.com, Jayne Wallace, a British psychic, will hold the world’s first (wait for it) Twitter-based séance on Halloween to contact Jackson as well. I want to crack wise but, well, what could my sarcasm add to that last sentence?
Yes, it's totally ridiculous, but in the end, MJ lived large. He made his mark, touched millions of people's lives through music and generosity. He turned his house into an amusement park! He was an image so indelible that people make a living pretending to be him. It makes sense that we are still compelled to find out more, even if its from beyond the grave.
Derek and Jayne? Good luck with that!
