Tuesday is Read Across America Day!

readacrossamerica.jpgMarch 2 is the birthday of the late, great Dr. Seuss, and what better way to celebrate than by reading to kids on the 13th annual Read Across America Day?

If you decide to participate, you won't be alone. More than 45 million children and adults are expected to participate this year. Among them will be First Lady Michelle Obama, who is expected to kick-off the nationwide event with a reading to Washington DC-area students at the Library of Congress.

Schools around the country have a wide range of reading-related and Seuss-inspired events on their agendas. The Santa Teresita Elementary School in Los Angeles is holding fundraisers to buy Dr. Seuss books for every child in the school and will commemorate the Doc's birthday with a cake. The Passaic City School District in New Jersey will host a pajama party with read-along events for all of its students. King Springs Elementary School in Smyrna, Georgia, has amassed a roster of public readers — including local policemen, firefighters, federal marshals, members of the Air Force and parents — to tell stories to children.

Curious to see what your school district is doing? Visit the Read Across America Facebook page.
