Facebook and the Green-eyed Monster

Jealous of your lover’s Facebook friends?

Wondering who your honey is hanging with online — and what he or she is saying about YOU?

If so, you’re not alone.

According to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Guelph in Canada and described in Science Daily, young adults who are into social networking “may be exposed to information about their partners that makes them jealous, leading them to spend more time involved in online surveillance and to uncover even more jealousy-provoking information.”

In other words, the more time you spend surveilling your sweetie by remote control, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more you worry. The more you worry, the more you watch. In the long run, it's a vicious cycle of jealousy that has the potential to end in high drama and heartbreak.

Of course, high drama can be exciting. But an addictive relationship to Facebook and MySpace can undermine more than just your love life. It's a rotten way to get your job done, stay fit or talk through the problems you're facing in the real world.
