Sandra Bullock Hosts Event for School Devastated by Katrina

warreneaston.jpg

Just ahead of the opening of her new drama, The Blind Side, Sandra Bullock will host a benefit premiere next week on November 19, to raise money for Warren Easton Charter High School. Bullock has been a staunch supporter of the school since it sustained damaged from Hurricane Katrina.

Bullock, who recently purchased a house in New Orleans, will attend, along with Blind Side writer-director John Lee Hancock and writer Michael Lewis, on whose book the movie was based. The real life Tuohys, who inspired the characters in the film, will also join the star.

The Blind Side is based on the real-life story of Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher, who, as a homeless and rudderless teen in Memphis, Tenn., was taken in by the Tuohy family. He eventually became an All-American at Ole Miss and a first-round selection of the Ravens in this year's draft.

Dubbed "Easton Angels," Bullock and her husband, Jesse James, have already funded 10 students' participation in the Louisiana Youth Seminar program, an annual leadership conference held in July on the campus of LSU. She also recently established a new $10,000 college scholarship. Meanwhile, a customized tool chest donated by Jesse James fetched $6,800 for Easton at the Gulf Coast Bank's annual auction.

The Blind Side opens in theaters on November 20.
