Say 'No' to Plastic Bags, 'Yes' to Extra Bucks

As you may be aware, there's a collection of trash the size of Texas floating in the Pacific Ocean. A large percentage of that rather troubling debris is plastic, including all those plastic bags we've been getting over the years when we buy something. At select grocery stores, you've probably been given the "Paper or plastic?" option, but what about the option of a reusable bag, or not using a bag at all?

Sure, you're thinking, maybe that would help the planet that I depend upon for my very existence, but how would that benefit me? Well, if you shop at CVS/pharmacy, here's how.

According to this company release, the store has introduced something called GreenBagTag (at right) that actually rewards people who decline plastic bags. Starting today at CVS/pharmacy's 7,000 locations across the country, for 99 cents, you can buy this environmentally conscious tag. Then, attach it to a reusable bag or your key chain, and every time you either use a reusable bag or carry your own items out, get the tag scanned. When used with an ExtraCare card (info available here), for every four scans, you'll get a $1.00 "Extra Buck" on your receipt, which can be used toward nearly every item in the store.

It's part of the store's ExtraCare Rewards program, which provides 2 percent back on nearly every dollar you spend at CVS/pharmacy, along with other select discounts.

Extra savings for you and doing your part to try and save the planet, all for just 99 cents.
