Scott Brown and Barrack Obama Long-Lost Relatives? Believe it.

scott-brown-obama-mash.jpgPolitics makes strange bedfellows and even weirder family relations. In an odd twist of fate, it turns out that the newly-elected Republican Scott Brown who won the late Democrat Ted Kennedy’s storied senate seat is related to President Barack Obama. Wait. What? Weird, right?

Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, and Brown’s mother, Judith Ann Rugg, both descend from Richard Singletary of Haverhill, Mass, who died in 1687 at the incredible age of 102. According to research done by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Obama’s and Brown’s mutual ancestor not only lived a long life, but, also like them, a life of public service. He never did get too far along politically speaking, though, since he served only as a selectman in two small Massachusetts towns in the 1650s.

The Republican Brown, once a largely unknown state senator, rocked the national political scene by stealing the Senate seat held for nearly a half-century by the late Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy — a move that may turn out to be the deciding vote to upset Obama’s plans for healthcare reform. That has catapulted Brown into a national profile and his good genes that blessed him with great hair and model looks may capture even more attention.

Politically speaking, Brown may also be inspired to know that the research done by genealogists found that he is related to six other US Presidents, including George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, Richard Nixon, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover and Rutherford Hayes. "I'm glad to be in such distinguished company," Brown said of the findings.

Then again, Obama appears to have one-upped Brown, since the Genealogical Society found that Obama is related to seven US Presidents: including George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S Truman, and James Madison. Oh yes, and actor Brad Pitt.

Seems like they’re both swimming in a politically blessed Gene pool.
