For Sesame Street, a Star-studded Start to 2010
When you think "celebrities," you probably think "red carpet," not "paving stones." But there's one famous street that has seen more stars strut their stuff than any crimson rug. Sesame Street, that friendly byway known and loved by all, has hosted so many famous people that the list of them consumes an entire Web page.
Sesame Street's guest list goes way beyond those who attend the Oscars. The diversity of the celebrities who have acted in the show's educational vignettes is remarkable: sports figures (tennis star Arthur Ashe, skiing wunderkind Picabo Street, gymnast Dominique Dawes), musicians (singer Johnny Cash, banjo player Bela Fleck, the Tokyo String Quartet), notables of literature and film (novelist Amy Tan, director Spike Lee) and, of course, stars of the silver screen (Lily Tomlin, Billy Crystal, Julia Roberts).
That's only a tiny sample; the list goes on and on. Even Michelle Obama was recently on the show planting a garden with Elmo.
This January and February, the all-star fun continues. Kids can look forward to meeting more famous actors, sports stars and musicians. One of them, Rocco Fiorentino, is a blind, 12-year-old jazz singer who's performed for the likes of Stevie Wonder and Tony Bennett, who have both, incidentally, also appeared on the show.
Here's the lineup:
Tuesday, Jan. 19: Julianna Margulies helps Big Bird when he hurts his wing; Matthew Fox presents the Word on the Street: "Bone."Thursday, Jan. 21: Rocco Fiorentino stops by for some fun on Sesame Street; Kobe Bryant presents the Word on the Steet: "Miniature." Monday, Jan. 25: Christina Applegate presents the Word on the Street: "Booth."This posting brought to you by the letter K and then number 7.
