Being Responsible at Shangri-La

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, the Asia-based luxury hotel group, has launched a two-year corporate social responsibility initiative in Thailand, according to this article. The company is relatively new to the game, having named its first CSR director last year. The five areas Shangri-La is focusing on for its corporate social responsibility efforts are the environment, health and safety, employees, supply chain management and stakeholder relations.

In Thailand, last year, 17 CSR projects were organized in local communities, including building a school library, encouraging Shangri-La staff to stop smoking and even providing aerobic sessions. This year, there are plans to have more activities, such as a project that ensures homeless children receive an education. There will also be an environmental sustainability focus, including areas like climate change, water management and indoor air quality.

Even though they just got around to naming a CSR director in 2008, it looks like Shangri-La is making up for lost time. You can find out more about their corporate social responsibility here.
