Show Up … and Show Your Support

Miss SixtyThink coming to a fashion show can't make a difference? Think again. At last night's Miss Sixty show, every guest was given a limited edition Totes umbrella benefiting charity: water, the organization that helps bring safe drinking water to those in need in developing countries.

With each umbrella — and there were around 700 in the cavernous Bryant Park Tent — a donation was made to this non-profit, enabling one person to have clean water for 20 years. So whatever you think about Miss Sixty's clothes — which are exactly serious fashion, although there were a some cute skinny jeans and biker jackets on Sunday night's runway — you've gotta give them credit for helping make a difference. (And its support of charity: water isn't new: Miss Sixty given the organization over $20,000 since their last fashion show in September.) And you might also thank them on Wednesday, when the forecast is for plenty of rain ...

At the DKNY show a few hours earlier, a gift that makes a difference was also given out: a T-shirt supporting each attendee's choice of five New York based charities, like Cityarts and City Harvest. (After the show, guests emailed in their picks.) The tees will also be available when the collection hits stores in the autumn ... and chances are you'll want to pick up one of the crisp pieces from the show (like vintage-inspired suit separates and its first piece, a fire engine red coat) while you're there.
