Sick on Vacation? Pull Out Your iPhone!
Whether your summer vacation plans include a short road trip or a 20-hour plane ride, there's nothing worse than being sick when you're traveling. Even if your doctor is reachable by phone and in the same time zone, help (and your medicine cabinet) can feel like it's a gazillion miles away. And, of course, if you're dealing with something unexpected in a remote area — like, say, a broken ankle on a hiking trip, you've got problems. The answer, like so many these days, is on your iPhone ...
The folks at Medjet.com have just launched an iPhone application that's filled with medical advice. It covers everything from minor scrapes to life-or-death situations like choking, it's easy to use, and best of all, it's free on iTunes.
If you're worried about the reliability of this app's info, fear not: The information comes from the well-respected book A Comprehensive Guide to Wilderness and Travel Medicine and is based on over a decade's worth of research.
Even if your idea of wilderness travel is strolling through Paris' Bois de Boulogne with a large cone of wild strawberry flavored ice cream, this app is as essential for summer trips as a passport and a see-through plastic quart-sized bag. Unless, of course, you don't have an iPhone — which means you're probably just going to die. Just kidding.
