Simple and Green
It seems the newest thing nowadays is to "go green." No, I'm not talking about going to Michigan State University (since I'm a Penn State student), but I mean do something to help the environment. I know that recently it seems that this is sort of a fad, but I don't think it will ever go away.
Personally, I love every chance that I get to help the environment and also people alike. With Earth Day happening just a few weeks ago, the day has really gotten me thinking "green." I came across something that had never really occurred to me until recently. Everyone is trying to make cars that run on something other than gas and helping the environment, but I realized there is a way you can help — and it's probably one of the most basic things known to man. What is the one of the first things that a parent waits for their child to do?
If you said take their first steps, then you are right.
People are all concerned about all these new technologies, but what about the most basic thing? What I'm trying to get at is shoes. I came across a company called Simple Shoes that tries to help the environment with the shoes they sell. While I don't yet own a pair (I am a poor college kid), I plan to as soon as possible. The company started making shoes from all-natural materials, then decided that wasn't good enough. The shoes you can buy from them now are made from 100 percent recycled material. With the rubber on the bottoms of the shoes made from old tires, the laces from plastic bottles, and other parts made from hemp, organic cotton, silk, these are the most eco-friendly shoes you can buy. These are also quite stylish looking too. I can't wait until I get my first pair.
The amount of things you can do to be eco-friendly is just bewildering, but I think that the best thing you can do, the next time you want to do something good for mother nature, just look down at your feet. If you don't have some eco-friendly shoes on, then you know what to do. Of course, though, if you aren't wearing any shoes I guess you maybe be helping Mother Nature even more than I am, but I'll be the one without rocks in my feet and some stylish eco-friendly shoes.
Here's the story of Simple Shoes. It's quite entertaining.
