Ciara: Not Too Cool for School

While on a short break before she hits the road again with Britney Spears for the second leg of the pop mama's international tour, Grammy winning singer-songwriter Ciara gave put in an appearance at a Staples/Do Something 101 event.

Do Something's primary goal is empower teenagers. The organization mission is to provide the tools and resources to convert ideas and energy into positive action.

Ciara, joined Twilight star Chaske Spencer and singer Leah Renee, as they worked side-by-side with volunteers during the second annual Staples/Do Something 101 national school supply drive event at the Children’s Aid Society Dunlevy Milbank Boys & Girls Club in New York. The stars filled 5,000 bags with notebooks, calculators, binders, and other back-to-school essentials, which will be donated to local students in need in time for the upcoming school year.

"The Do Something 101 campaign is such a great cause. I can`t imagine going to school without pencils, notebooks and other basic supplies," said Ciara in a statement.  "Every little bit counts and, through Do Something 101, the more we can get these essential products to teens, the more we help kids stay in school and excel even further. I look forward to working with DoSomething.org and Staples to spread the word!"

Ciara has already filmed a PSA that's begun to air nationwide and Staples is donating more than $125,000 worth of school supplies to the program.

"With help from celebrities like Ciara, we will continue to raise awareness for underserved youth in local communities who need the basic supplies to succeed in school," said Demos Parneros, president of US stores at Staples.

Teens can go to www.DoSomething101.org where they offer tools and ideas on how to run local school supply drives. School supplies have ALWAYS been an issue whether the district is struggling to provide for the influx of students or students come from homes where financial strains make it nearly impossible for them to have what they need. Well done, Ciara, for helping out!
