South Korean Woman Passes Driver’s Exam ... At Long Last

You've heard of the old expression, "950th time's the charm," right? No? Well, tell that to Cha Sa-soon, the 68-year old South Korean woman who on Wednesday passed her written driver's license exam on her 950th try.

According to local authorities, Ms. Cha Sa-soon (apparently no relation to Vidal Sassoon) had spent more than 5 million won ($4,200) in application fees in her near-daily attempt to pass the test since April 2005, but until now had failed to score the minimum 60 out of a possible 100 points. She passed the written test in Jeonju, about 130 miles south of Seoul.

She must now pass the driving portion of the test before getting her license, which Ms. Sa-soon says she needs to help with her vegetable-selling business. And while Ms. Sa-soon looks like a lovely woman, I might not volunteer to be a passenger in her car.

The Associated Press reports that repeated calls to Sa-Soon went unanswered — probably because she's so busy celebrating, possibly with 950 shots.

As of press time, there had been no word as to whether the Beach Boys will consider re-recording the lyrics of their iconic hit "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" to "Little Old Lady from South Korea." Go, Granny, go indeed.
