Stars Get Super Charitable for the Super Bowl

Truthfully, I'm more interested in the Super Bowl parties than I am in the actual game. And what goes hand in hand with Super Bowl parties? Gluttony. It's take, take, take and not a lot of giving.

This year, however, several celebrities are working to make sure Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Fla., contributes more than just waste and drunken fans — they're getting involved in charitable events surrounding the big game. And, of course, they're doing it in style.

Jordin Sparks is holding the second annual Jordin Sparks Super Bowl Experience to benefit Sparks Charities, including Uplift Excellence and 1Voice Foundation, as well as the World Children's Center, which helps homeless children. The "Experience" is a two-day event (starting today), with Day One named "Up Close and Personal" at Roy's Tampa restaurant. Jordin and celeb chef Roy Yamaguchi will hold a meet-and-greet session with fans, who will be treated to food, drink and an auction. Let me tell you, if you haven't eaten at Roy's, you're missing out, regardless of whether or not you're noshing with somebody famous.

Day Two is an intimate concert at Grace Family Church in nearby Lutz. Only 3,000 tickets will be sold, so if you're hoping to hear Jordin perform some of her top hits in a small setting or take part in the Roy's Up Close and Personal experience, head on over to the Sparks Charities homepage.

She's not the only celebrity using her fame for good during Super Bowl week. Prankster Ashton Kutcher is hosting a VIP Super Bowl party to help The Giving Back Fund, a charity that aims to make philanthropists as cool and hip as elite athletes and entertainers. The Fund provides professional philanthropic management, consulting and mentoring to those with money and good intentions but no experience. Interested in attending? Tickets are $1,000, and the location (a private residence) will be revealed after you've purchased the ticket.

Jenny McCarthy also has hosting duties — Fri., Jan. 30, she'll head up the Leather and Laces VIP party at Jackson's Bistro, with proceeds going to her autism charity, Generation Rescue. She's not the only hottie who'll be there — Carmen Electra and Kim Kardashian also will attend and guests will be entertained by Cirque USA performers. Ticket prices start at $275 and can be purchased here.

Of course, if you're not in the area, you can always make your own Super Bowl party into a give-back event. Make it a green party, serving locally grown foods and reusable plates and silverware. Ask your guests to bring an item for a charity of your choice — canned food for the local homeless shelter, or old towels and blankets for a pet rescue. Every little bit makes a difference on game day!
