When Bad Makes Good

Last month, Brooklyn coffee shop Vox Pop was the victim of a mysterious and disturbing crime. Someone stole its Statue of Liberty replica and filmed its beheading, which was later posted on YouTube.

Terrorist propaganda? Lousy art? It's hard to say. What is for certain, however, is the outpouring of support the little local haunt has received.

In particular was the generous offer from Manhattan's One if by Land, Two if by Sea. Tom Kirk, the restaurant's dining manager, read about the crime in the NY Daily News, and later told the paper, "I'm a big Lady Liberty fan," he said. "I felt disgusted. It was awful. I wanted to do something to help ease their pain." The Barrow Street eatery has had its own green goddess for years, but would gladly part with it to replace the stolen one.

While Vox Pop still hasn't accepted the offer, its always comforting to know that someone doing bad, can inspire others to do good.
