Steven Tyler Surprises With Visit to Karaoke Bar

Steven Tyler, the (current? former?) lead singer of rock band Aerosmith walked into a karaoke bar a few days ago and dazzled the patrons of the Tilted Kilt in Palm Springs, Calif., with an Aerosmith original: "Don't Want to Miss a Thing."

The visit to the karaoke bar marks the first time that Tyler has been out in public since entering rehab for addiction to prescription painkillers. He had also been in rehab in May 2008 to deal with his issues of using drugs to manage chronic pain he has dealt with for years from injuries. Tyler fell off a stage in August which resulted in the band having to cancel the rest of the tour. And then the rumors started: were they or weren't they?  After four decades of togetherness as a band and as close friends, could Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford not continue on as the Aerosmith that we knew?

According to what guitarist Perry is saying, his longtime pal's stint at rehab, was the tipping point for them to consider finding a new frontman. And as the UPI reports, Perry told Canada's QMI Agency, the band is holding auditions for Tyler's spot:

"Hopefully, we'll have found a new singer by the summer, and Aerosmith will be able to go back out on the road," said Perry.

Does this mean that Tyler might have a permanent gig at the Tilted Kilt? No, but good for him for being game enough to walk into a bar in the middle of the desert during what must be a difficult time, and letting loose on the mic. If nothing else, it sure gave Mike May, the DJ something to talk about.

"All of a sudden, near the end of the song, he grabbed the mic and started singing. The whole frickin' bar surrounded him and he just started singing the whole thing."

"It was, like, one of those moments — a club DJ's dream come true."

And maybe in that same moment, it gave Steven Tyler, whatever his fate with his nearly 40-year-old band, a chance to remember that his dreams already have.
