Super Shopping Saturday
There are a lot of shopping events for charity these days, but none are quite are as comprehensive as Super Saturday. So if you're a shopaholic that wants to give back as you indulge, walk, run, fly, drive, or bike ride to the Hamptons on Aug. 1 for a fabulous day in the sun (or, although we hope this isn't the case, the rain or 95 degree heat.)
Super Saturday is the brainchild of designer Donna Karan, who gathered together some of her pals 12 years ago to create what's essentially the world's chicest garage sale, with all proceeds going to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. The event has snowballed over the years and now includes a massive children's activity area, an Essie manicure station, and a gourmet makeshift cafeteria and full bar along with scores of your favorite designer brands at great prices. (In other words, you can bring your husband and kids and know they won't be standing there bored and cranky as you're figuring out which discounted Marc Jacobs bag to buy.)
And if you're a celebrity watcher, this is also one of the world's few garage sales where you can actually spot some bold faced name, like Kelly Ripa (who's pictured here at last year's event, in a shot taken by famed photographer Patrick McMullan.)
One of the coolest things about Super Saturday (beyond the great cause) is that the scope of designers ranges from deluxe to down-to-earth, with items for guys, children, and home as well as loads for women. This year, brands like Free People and UNIQLO will be next to Ralph Lauren and Carolina Herrera, plus there will be beauty items from Clarins, gorgeous Smythson stationery, and even Dyson vacuums amidst the rows and rows of clothing.
What's the best purchase at Super Saturday? Clearly, a giant designer tote to haul all your purchases home in.
