Survivor Winner Yul Kwon Appointed To FCC Position

Consider that former House star Kal Penn's greatest contribution to society was playing Kumar, one-half of the stoner pair in Harold & Kumar Goes To White Castle. It makes one wonder how he scored his sweet gig in the White House. Penn became an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison last July, with a focus on connecting President Barack Obama with the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities, as well as arts groups.

And now, another television star has finagled his way into a comfy government job. Survivor: Cook Islands winner Yul Kwon has been named the new deputy chief of Consumer and Governmental Affairs at the FCC. Essentially when you have a complaint about off-color content, the complaint goes to him first. But this isn't some vanity appointment, Kwon is plenty qualified to take on the gig.

Besides being a practicing attorney, he's worked as an aide to Sen. Joe Lieberman, was a clerk in an appellate court, even taking on a position in the technology sector working at Google. He's good on paper too: he holds a B.S. degree in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University and his J.D. is from Yale Law School, where he served on the editorial board of the Yale Law Journal.

As deputy chief, his department is responsible for developing and implementing the Commission’s consumer policies, including disability access. He will also be the face of the bureau through outreach and education initiatives that he'll oversee.
