Green T-Mobilization

The two things I most identified T-Mobile with up until now have been those Catherine Zeta-Jones commercials and that they're the carrier for the Google phone. Those are all well and good, but I need something with a little more substance, and a little more zazz.

Cue T-Mobile's "Mobilize."

It's the company's green initiative, including a few different ways that its customers can be more environmentally conscious. For instance, by getting a Green Account, they can go paperless, getting a bill online, paying it there, and receiving all other updates via e-mail. To get more people to do so, when a customer signs up for a Green Account, T-Mobile will plant a tree on that person's behalf with the Arbor Day Foundation. So far, they've planted more than 800,000 trees.

They're also featuring Green Perks, which is an application you can download that highlights discounts on select green products and services. In addition, they have a phone, the Moto W233 Renew (pictured at right), that is "the world's first mobile phone made using plastics comprised of recycled water bottles," and phone accessories and applications that are more Earth-friendly, too.

The Mobilize site also offers information on green programs the company is pursuing, including recycling of mobile phones and harnessing renewable hydroelectric power, as well as suggestions for practices their customers can undertake to make a difference.
