Tech Giants Cited as Great Places for Moms to Work

What do HP, IBM, Intel, Cisco, Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Verizon and AOL all have in common right now?

The technology companies, telecom and Internet services provider are all on the 2009 Working Mother  100 Best Companies list, which is now in its 24th year. As the magazine explains, this year's honorees are to be commended for keeping employment and job opportunity standards high in face of a dismal economy and financial marketplace.

"Defying expectations in this time of economic stress, the 2009 Working Mother 100 Best Companies demonstrate their unwavering dedication to family-friendly benefits," states a press release that noted all honorees offer flextime and telecommuting options and that 98 percent provide job-sharing and wellness programs as well. In addition, the companies have also managed to protect and keep programs that help families such as tuition support, retirement planning and pretax childcare programs.

In its release about landing on the list, Dell noted that it hit the list for the second consecutive year and has improved scores in six of the eight list categories that put it on the list initially in 2008. Dell said it received good marks for its work-life effectiveness programs and in a new category that measures women's issues and advancement.

“At Dell, we consider diversity and inclusion integral parts of our business strategy. By continuing to drive these initiatives throughout the company, we’re able to harness each individual’s full potential, drive innovation and become a better place to work,” said Gil Casellas, vice president of corporate responsibility for Dell, in the statement.
