Test Drive: Natural Deodorants

It's a touchy — no, make that sniffly — subject.

Your underarms, and their odoriferous ways. It's fact that sweat and bacteria in that area can produce some pretty unpleasant results, but then so can conventional deodorant and its purported Alzheimer's/breast cancer-inducing results — though there's been no real proof that the aluminum compound (which is what blocks your pores and keeps you from sweating and ... stinking) does cause anything so nefarious, even if it is one of the most enduring internet legends out there.

Still, I'm not alone in my group of friends who eschew the "real" deodorants in favor of something a little less harsh.

I have tried the gamut of "natural" deodorants, with, I'll be honest (and apologetic to those in the vicinity), limited success: from Weleda's spray (both the sage and citrus varieties) to the Crystal rock, to Kiss My Face's Liquid Rock.

Weleda smelled nice, but wasn't so effective; same for the crystal. The Liquid Rock works OK, but if you're out in the heat or doing some Bikram yoga, it's not going to cut it. Trust me.

The Daily Green has their own take on the matter, so scroll through and see if one or some of the chemical-free kinds look like they won't have you sweating the small stuff.

(And it's all small stuff, remember?)
