The Best Pizza in New York City

New York City is perhaps known best for its pizza -- that fold-it-in-half-it's-so-big, ooey-gooey, thin crust wonder slice that is New York-style pizza. It's no wonder the city practically has a pizza shop on every corner -- it's really just that good.

So with all those pizza shops and all those delicious slices to be had, choosing a best slice in the city seems like a huge undertaking. Still, according to a New York Daily News story, that's exactly what 27-year-old Jeff Orlick and a group of New York foodies did.

Orlick organized the 5-Boro Pizza Tour, an event where a group of 40 folks sampled pies from pizza shops in all five boroughs from July 26th through September 13th. After several weeks and countless slices, the group named Salvatore's of Soho located in Staten Island as the city's best slice.

The group also named winners in each of the remaining boroughs: John's Pizzeria in Elmhurst (Queens), Mario's Restaurant in Belmont (the Bronx), L'asso in Manhattan and Luigi's Pizza in Windsor Terrace (Brooklyn).

To be fair, the group only tried pizza from 26 restaurants -- a mere drop in the bucket when considering New York's countless pizza joints. But Orlick says he sampled slices, read reviews and did research before narrowing down the competition to those 26 places.

Still, we're guessing there's a lot of delicious pizza left off that list. So go out and find your own favorite slice in New York or your own neighborhood, and tell us who you think deserves the title of "The Best Slice."
