Jordan vs. LeBron
Telling kids they can be like Jordan just took on a whole new meaning.
This week, Xavier basketball player Jordan Crawford reportedly leveled a mean slam dunk over LeBron James at the Nike-backed LeBron James Skills Academy. How brutal was the dunk? According to reports, a Nike representative — possibly at LBJ's behest — confiscated the tapes of two videographers that were recording the pickup game.
Apparently King James didn't want to become King Jester all over YouTube.
Nike is trying to find cover for LBJ saying the camp — which takes place at the University of Akron in James' hometown — has never allowed videotaping the pickup games and that the tapes would have be confiscated regardless. Sure, Nike guy.
According to ESPN, videographer Ryan Miller noted that he'd been taping the camp all day and was only approached after the dunk. He also noted that the person confiscating the tape only did so after LeBron called him over and chatted.
Regardless, the real story here is Jordan Crawford, who told ESPN (see video below) he was just happy to attend the camp since it features the nation's top 80 prospects. He also noted that he was honored to play on the same court as LeBron and that he didn't realize the significance of the dunk until he saw the other players going nuts.
Humility aside, Crawford just made a major step towards a professional career. He put it all out there, went up against one of the greatest basketball players ever and risked having his shot blocked and a humiliating fall on his butt. Instead, this young player went to the hole and made sports headlines around the world.
It just goes to show, no guts, no glory when it comes to pursuing your dream!
