The Scallion: Leno's Fingernail Recycling

With Shia LaBeouf helping him kick off the new "Green" Tonight Show, Jay Leno announced his new Fingernail Recycling Drive during his late-night show on Wednesday.

In honor of the announcement, LaBeouf presented Leno with his own fingernail — a casualty of his recent late-night DUI crash in Los Angeles. LaBeouf required hand surgery and took leave from filming Transformers following that accident. Upon accepting the mangled fingernail, Leno immediately had LaBeuof initial it for authenticity purposes.

Leno plans to collect fingernails from each guest between now and the end of the year.  He hopes to recycle the fingernails into a tuxedo or other suit, which he can wear during his final broadcast of The Tonight Show later in 2009.

I am getting goosebumps just thinking of him sliding down a chalk board in that fingernail suit!

Leno also is taking fingernail submissions from the general public. If you have a recently damaged fingernail that is close to coming off, please save it and send to: NBC Tonight Show's Fingernail Recycling Drive, NBC Studios, 3000 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank, Calif. 91523.
