The Singapore Flyer Tops the London Eye
The Singapore Flyer, at 165 meters high, is not only bigger than the London Eye, but they also play "I Like the Way You Move" by the Bodyrockers on repeat. Suck it, London.
In Chinese culture, the number 8 is considered very lucky, so although the Flyer is largely sponsored by German banks, it has 28 (two eights, in Chinese wisdom) capsules which can each accommodate 28 people. It was also opened on April 8, 2008. The flyer is located in Marina Bay, allowing passengers to see far out into the ship-filled sea, as well as providing spectacular views of Singapore.
At the time of my visit, the Singapore Flyer (as well as the rest of Singapore) was all tricked-out for the F1 Grand Prix, but it features exciting lighting and awesome deals year-round, such as the Signature Cocktail Flight (they give you a cocktail on your ride and you get to keep the glass), other booze-related flights for private parties and businesses and even dining, and my personal favorite offer: the Singapore Flyer Wedding Solemnisation Package -- you get a limo and a yacht, and exchange your vows at 165 meters above sea level in a floral-decorated capsule. $5,000 Singapore (about $3,531 USD) gets you all that with two rotations (one rotation takes about half an hour).
I'd imagine they allow you to change the music in that case.
