Three's Not a Crowd
Within the fashion world, a big deal is made of "community" — the notion that designers, in their small circle, all work together and help one another out. In all honesty, it's a noble concept that' s not usually the case. But it was at one of Sunday's shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, when three designers (Nicholas K, Sergio Davila and Mara Hoffman) came together to present their collections as one back-to-back show, saving money on models, makeup and hair stylists, and the fee to hire the Promenade show space. With the current state of the economy, this kind of teamwork isn't just inspirational — it's essential.
Not all the looks that came down the show's runway looked particularly wearable, but those that did — like Mara Hoffman's groovy patterned leggings — made you want to grab them from off the models and throw them into your bag to wear with boots and a dress the next day. And speaking of bags, this show's gift bag included our favorite item so far: a big bar of sustainably grown, organic Mexican chocolate.
