Time for the Great American Smokeout

photo_4619_20090216.jpgIt's time for the Great American Smokeout. The Smokeout is always the third Thursday of November, one week before Thanksgiving. Now is as good a time as ever to quit that pretty crappy habit. I do it, I hate that I do and haven't had one today. I've thought about it. A lot. But I'm not going to go through with it.

Whether you're a smoker or not, you know the dangers that are attached with smoking: lung damage, inhaling cancer-inducing chemicals, heart disease. In fact, smoking is so bad and gross that is can make someone in the proximity of your smoke very ill!

Oy. I know. Probably a good reason for me to be writing this today. I've really got to quit it; it's a bad habit! Some of my favorite celebrities are smokers, but many have quit in recent years.

Here are my fave celebs that kicked tobacco to the curb, in honor of the Great American Smokeout:

Kate Hudson

The last straw: "I didn't like the way the car smelt, or my hair and clothes" The 30-year-old actress tells Britain's OK! magazine, "Quitting meant eating more," which is also when she had a bit of a weight gain leading everyone to think she was pregnant.

Nikki Reed & Ashley Greene

The last straw: "[Ashley and Nikki] know they are role models for little kids. If there are a ton of paparazzi photos of them smoking, that's not a positive image," according to a report on E! News. So the duo that portray teen vampresses on screen have relied on "SmokeStiks," electric cigarettes that replicate smoking.

Jennifer Aniston

The last straw: Her voice. Aniston is about to embark on a sabbatical in Brazil, but she'll also start singing lessons for her role in a new project The Goree Girls, where she'll sing and dance. Smoking hampers both. The Friends star reportedly did a lot of of yoga in an attempt to cleanse her body of caffeine and quit smoking.

Johnny Depp

The last straw: "I've been cutting down on my smoking," Depp said in a recent interview with the press. "Instead of having a cigarette, I'll swim or some do other healthy activity!" (Like count his money and check out his hotness?)

Prince Harry

The last straw: He relapsed. According to an article in the Times of India, the then-24-year-old prince was up to a pack a day before. Apparently after expressing frustration and dealing with a bit of stress from joining the military, a friend gave him the book Quit Smoking Now by Paul McKenna.
