Wireless Carrier Hopes to Make Customers a Little Greener
Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless carrier, is hoping to entice customers to get on the online payment bandwagon and help make the world a little more green while saving time when it comes to monthly billing tasks.
The mobile carrier and its parent organization, Verizon Communications, is running a contest in which customers can win a Toyota Prius Hybrid vehicle by setting up an online account and/or setting up an auto payment process by October 31. Just having an online account provides a contest entry to clients. But you must maintain the account, online billing or auto payment process for at least one month to be eligible to win.
But there's also an instant-win bonus opportunity after customers complete a step.
As the promotional campaign page notes, the goal is to "Join The Network Effect. Go Paperless."
It's part of Verizon's corporate responsibility effort, which includes lots of technology updates and upgrades to improve energy efficiency as well.
It's looking to cut one-third of its signal regeneration equipment in its network, which would save about 116 million kilowatts a year and its data center operations team is working with Intel and HP on new energy saving data center designs. Its internal tech team is also plugging in thin-client PCs at call centers to slash energy usage by 30 percent.
