Insurance for the Times: Wedded Bliss! Or Wedded Miss?

Marriage insurance. Could it be coming to a gift registry near you soon?

Sensing there was a need for happily never after protection, Olu O. Eniwaye, a professor at Daytona State College, has recently applied for a license with the Florida Office of Insurance Registration. Eniwaye created his own website designed to sell the protection, should the marriage end in divorce, but protection against what, really? Fraud or damage? And what would the conditions be?

Sure, half of all marriages do end in divorce. But the silver lining/sunny side is that the other 50 percent don't.

Actually, maybe it's not as unseemly as it sounds. After all, prenuptial agreements have been around for years, and this is could end up being just a slightly different version of that (just for people whose last name isn't Trump, McCartney or Ciccone).

If anything, perhaps Eniwaye's own marriage ended and, as would be a professor's natural inclination,  used his experience as a teaching opportunity for others, and he feels fortified in being able to offer this to those who might want a little extra assurance that they would be OK should the marriage go south (which it won't! C'mon the power of positive thinking people!) Just like life insurance, you hope you won't need it, but it's nice to know it's there if you ever do.
