Weighing In — Mariah & Jessica Ignore Weight Criticism

Though rumors of a pregnancy have been swirling around songstress Mariah Carey for more than a year (since her marriage to actor Nick Cannon), she has yet to make an announcement about her parental intent — sources tell Page Six that Mariah is known to bulk up in-between albums. Though she's reportedly put on about 15 pounds, the singer says she doesn't care. "Mariah loves food. Right now she's making an album and eating everything and anything she wants," a source told Page Six.

Meanwhile, Jessica Simpson, the singer, actress and the face of a multi-million dollar fashion and shoe empire, has been battling comments on her weight. Simpson was spotted in New York this week and is said to be working on broadening her empire, taking meetings all over town relating to her Jessica Simpson shoe line and fragrance deal. She was spotted at Serafina restaurant on Monday with friends and her mom, Tina, enjoying herself — and a plate of spaghetti bolognese — thoroughly.

In spite of the criticism she's endured since sported a fuller figure last fall during her tour with Rascal Flatts, Jessica is reportedly in the Big Apple to pitch her reality show concept The Price of Beauty. The show is said to feature Simpson and a friend going on a road trip around the world in search of what people find beautiful and why.

Its simply refreshing to hear that these arguably incredibly powerful and gorgeous women (no matter the size of their waistline) are ambivalent to pressure from society to conform to an unrealistic weight. They both have curvy bodies, and in my opinion, look a little ill when they've dropped TOO much weight. The pressure and criticism in Hollywood is deafening. Its good to know these songbirds aren't trying to hear it!

One thing Simpson is very skilled at, dropping the pounds in a jiffy, check out my friend Hollie McKay's Pop Tarts blog, she recently chatted with Jessica Simpson's trainer Mike Alexander about the dos and don'ts of quick slimdowns.
