Burger Wars
Wait. You mean people won’t eat gray, gelatinous meat just because it costs 99 cents? You’re saying people don’t mind spending money for a quality product?
After McDonald’s finally caught on with its Angus steak burger, and Carl’s Jr. realized it could be making more money with its Six-Dollar burger, Marketplace reports the better burger wars are officially on and Wendy’s is just the latest to enter the fray.
Marketplace says that Wendy’s in particular is looking to improve its performance after its recent merger with sandwich maker Arby’s.
These burger chains learned a lesson from their high-end counterparts – who increasingly began putting burgers with foie gras and blue cheese on their gourmet menus – and charging a hefty premium for them.
How much can putting a premium burger on the menu help sales and image? We think before Wendy’s starts getting all fancy with applewood-smoked bacon burgers, they should first do something about that unnatural-looking square beef patty.
