The excitement is building around Spike Jonze's long delayed cinematic version of the childhood favorite Where the Wild Things Are. The trailer alone got 1.5 million hits on YouTube. For the uninitiated, the film is based on Maurice Sendak's classic children's story, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world — a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler. Next author Dave Eggers announced an October publication of The Wild Things, his take on the tale. Now MySpace has released a digital single "All is Love" by Karen O, the front woman of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (and ex-girlfriend of Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze). O has collaborated with other artists to produce a soundtrack that the kids will enjoy and it will still hold the attention of adults. She performs the first single, “All is Love,” with an untrained children’s choir. The full soundtrack drops Sept. 29.
Fans who want to be first in line to see the film can attend a special Q&A at Hollywood's Arclight theater. Spike Jonze, Dave Eggers, Catherine Keener and Max Records will answer questions following an Oct. 1 screening. The screening is to benefit the 826LA founded by Eggers, who co-wrote the Where the Wild Things Are script with director Jonze.
To check out the Q&A and the film the cost is $75. A $200 VIP ticket will secure premium seating and a pass to the VIP after-party at Space Fifteen Twenty. Don't fret those of you not in the Hollywood area, there will be separate screenings in all cities the following cities: San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Chicago, Boston, New York and Ann Arbor, Mich.
