New Yorkers Get Yoga With the Works

If you live in California, you might already be familiar with Yogaworks, a chain of yoga studios that offers classes for every level of practitioner. They've had a few New York City locations for a while, but the company's just opened a Soho branch that's got everything you want in a yoga space: focused instructors, loads of conveniently-timed classes, and a welcoming and spotless environment that's as recycled and sustainable as possible.

The downtown Yogaworks is in the heart of Soho — right near Balthazar, Dean and Deluca, and Topshop — but somehow dishes up a major dose of calm the minute you walk in the door. Although the space is unquestionably rooted in the neighborhood, with vintage loft columns inside and a view of Little Italy outside, it just feels mellower than anything nearby.

Some of that tranquility comes from the many organic elements that Clodagh Design used for the project like, sustainable wooden surfaces, bamboo floors, recycled board detailing and even the inclusion of a couple complimentary green tea stations outside the classrooms. And to stretch out your post-class sense of "ahhh" there are saunas in both the women's and men's shower areas, which are so large and welcoming they're called "retreats" instead of bathrooms.

It goes to show you, there's no place like om.
