Yahoo Puts Breast Cancer Awareness Front and Center

Taking a slight page from the Google Doodle marketing strategy, Yahoo's logo sports the bright pink ribbon symbol signifying breast cancer support. It's in honor of October being deemed Breast Cancer Awareness Month for 2009.

A quick click on the ribbon brings you to a special page where Yahoo promises to donate a $1 for every Yahoo! user who updates their status sometime during this month. Yahoo!, has pledged to donate up to $50,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with the gift aiding uninsured women to get free mammograms.

As of 3:30 p.m. East Coast time, more than 24,000 people had updated their status, so the goal is nearly half met. A map provided by Yahoo depicts the location of donors.

In addition, Yahoo has also developed and designed a useful portal focusing on all issues relating to breast cancer. You can discover the myths around the deadly disease and get expert advice. In addition, make sure you read the article on breast cancer symptoms. There are also dozens of forums where you can share and chat with others about dealing with breast cancer, helping and supporting others, and talking with medical professionals involved in diagnosing and treating the disease.

The donor page also offers up a slew of online resources, information and other ways of supporting the foundation's efforts.

So take a minute out of your busy day to not only help the battle to beat breast cancer but educate yourself, your mother, your sister, your niece and all your girl friends by sharing the links and Yahoo's terrific resources.
