Alec Baldwin, $1 Million and a School for the Arts

TheaterAlec Baldwin has officially made it; he now has a scholarship fund named for him. Baldwin donated $1 million to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, a top theatrical and recording arts institution from which he graduated in 1994.

The Alec Baldwin Drama Scholarship Fund will help needy students have access to this world-class education, according to an NYU press release.

Beginning next fall, the fund will offer tuition help to students who show what Baldwin calls “unwavering work ethic, development of leadership skills, willingness to collaborate, the ability to tolerate risk, and the capacity to work with constructive criticism.” The scholarship will give special consideration to students from families in financial straits and those from families in which no one has before attended college.

Baldwin said he wants to give other students the benefit that helped him get where he is. “The support I received from Tisch made it possible for me to become an actor and to have a career in this business,” he said. “It’s important to give back to the institutions that give us such opportunities, and I encourage anyone to look into supporting their alma mater.”
