Feeling down because there’s not many places you can wear your wizard costume out in public, aside from that Dungeons & Dragons convention? Well, stop crying in your Harry Potter specs and get yourself to Pittsburgh!
Tomorrow (Wednesday), the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium will offer $5 off zoo admission to adults and kids walking through the gates in full wizard regalia — and trust us, you haven’t truly experienced life until you’ve gazed at elephants while wearing a cape.
The gimmick is all part of the creative 5 Days, 5 Ways to Save campaign, which kicked off yesterday with … wait for it … Mullet Monday!
The zoo celebrated what it cleverly called this “increasingly endangered species” by offering discounts and prizes to those folks who know just how to conduct business up front while partying hard in the back.
“The mullet is rapidly becoming an endangered species and as a conservation organization we feel not just an obligation, but a moral imperative to herd, protect and cultivate Pittsburgh’s finest mullets,” zoo patron Mike Swick told CBS 5 in Pittsburgh.
But, according to The Pittsburgh Channel, apparently the mullet has become so toxic that zoo officials estimate that one in five mullets at the zoo Monday were fake. Nooooo!!!
If mullets and wizard costumes aren’t exactly your thing, do not despair animal-lovers. The zoo is offering even more ways to save this week, including:
- Twitter Tuesday: Follow the zoo on Twitter and send a Tweet saying “I love @pghzoo.” Print it out to save $5.
- Tie-Dye Thursday: Wear something tie-dye and save $5.
- Facebook Friday: “Like” the zoo on Facebook, then post a message on the zoo’s wall saying “I love the Pittsburgh Zoo!” Print it out and bring it to the gates to save $5.
Or, you could do none of the above and simply head to the zoo to look at more than 400 species of animals, including 22 threatened or endangered ones (mullets not included).
Plus, your admission goes toward their conservation efforts, including its participation in the Sea Turtle Second Chance Program and its Living Green initiatives.
So sure, you could head to the zoo in boring old shorts and flip-flops, but we think helping the zoo while channeling your inner Merlin just seems like a whole lot more fun.
