Who’s the foreign exchange student in this picture? The guy in the middle or the two girls flanking him? Or neither? In today’s school system, it’s no longer black or white or red or yellow or whatever mixed palette you can think of. The Long Duck Dongs of the world are no longer laughed at (OK, maybe a little that guy was funny), and foreign exchange students are more common than ever in US society.
In 2006, New York, California and Texas led the nation in the amount of foreign students hosted. If you want to broaden your world knowledge, you can easily welcome a child from another country into your home. If you let our friends at American Express Members Project know of your decision to host via Facebook, they’ll be one step closer to donating $1 million to DonorsChoose, which gives back to teachers nationwide.
